Izmir, the pearl of the Aegean or Smyrna, is the 2nd largest harbour in Turkey. It lies on the Aegean coast on the Gulf of Izmir and is one of the oldest towns in the world. Izmir is Turkey's 3rd largest town and capital of a province of the same name. Nearby finds from recent excavations show the town was inhabitated 8000 to 10000 years ago. Smyrna was a centre of rug-weaving. Large, well-known city directly by the sea. All shops, restaurants etc. in the resort. Museum, attractions. Thermal pool, wellness centre, health cures at 8 km. Access: railway station in the resort. For arrivals by plane: airport Izmir (ADB) 15 km.
