Gdansk is the birthplace of G. Grass, G. Fahrenheit, J. Hevelius and many others. Each year the city organizes numerous cultural events (such as St.Dominic's Fair at the beginning of August) and the wonderful atmosphere there draws masses of tourists to the city. Just there, in one of the largest shipyard in Europe, the "Solidarity" trade union movement was born.
