Climate
Small, picturesque resort with 650 inhabitants, with beautiful view, 22 km south-west from Portmagee (driving), 80 km south-west from Killarney. All shops, restaurants etc. in the resort. Access: car ferry Knightstown - Portmagee 1 km. For arrivals by plane: airport Cork (ORK) 170 km. One of Europe's westernmost inhabited locations, the island lies off the Iveragh Peninsula in the southwest of County Kerry. Easily accessible from the popular Ring of Kerry route, it is a scenic base from which explore the area. On the northeast of the island stands Glanleam House amid its famous sub-tropical gardens; protected by shelterbelts from Atlantic gales they provide the mildest microclimate in Ireland. A fascinating Heritage Centre tells the story of the Geology, Human, Natural and Industrial History of the island.
