Region information Burgundy
The region Burgundy
For many people Burgundy’s greatest claim to fame is its wine. A drive through the main wine producing areas is like a journey through the wine list as you stumble across names familiar on dinner tables throughout the world. All this is matched by the region’s reputation for gastronomy and traditional cuisine which is second to none, much of it making use of excellent local produce, including wine, which is the base for many sauces.
The countryside of Burgundy is a mixture of rolling hills criss- crossed with vineyards and forests such as in the Morvan national park with its rivers, valleys and lakes. Everywhere there are reminders of Burgundy’s colourful past, reflected in its rich legacy of art and architecture, with many Romanesque churches, abbeys and charming medieval villages scattered throughout the region.
